Richard Brueggman

Richard M. Brueggman
President & CEO

Richard earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from the University of Pittsburgh and his Master’s Degree in Physics from Carnegie Mellon University. His academic achievements include graduating with Honors at the top of his class in Physics, Academic 4-Year Merit Scholarship, Sigma Pi Sigma Honorary Physics Fraternity, National Honor Society, and the Westinghouse Science Honors Institute. He served as a Research Assistant at the University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Physics and Astronomy Semiconductor Optics Lab and Nuclear Physics Lab in conjunction with Westinghouse R&D.

Richard has also completed the Carnegie Mellon University Graduate School of Industrial Administration, Entrepreneurial Management Program, and the Birthing of Giants Program, sponsored by Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Inc. Magazine.

Richard’s professional career began at PPG Industries, Inc. where he was employed as a Development Physicist and Systems Integrator. He led projects relating to Glass Quality Improvement and Diagnostics, Physical and Mathematical Modeling, and Instrumentation and Automation. He was instrumental in pioneering the utilization of machine vision for use in closed loop process control, and implementation of virtual instrumentation technology for millions in profit.

In 1993, Richard founded Data Science Automation, a software and systems engineering firm that specializes in developing real-time, embedded, PC- and network-based solutions for research and industrial clients, and is now President and Chief Executive Officer.

Richard is an NI Certified LabVIEW Developer and was the first NI Certified Professional Instructor.  In 2007, Richard was invited to join Carnegie Mellon University as faculty in the Civil & Environmental Department.  He specializes in teaching graduate students in the use of LabVIEW for Data Acquisition, Sensing & Instrumentation in designing solutions for Advanced Infrastructure Systems.

Richard is or has been a member of Vistage, the Southpointe CEO AssociationEntrepreneurs’ Organization (EO)(formerly Young Entrepreneurs Organization (YEO)), Pittsburgh Technology CouncilISA International Society for Measurement and ControlInstitute of Electrical and Electronics EngineersOptical Society of AmericaAutomated Imaging Association, and the CSIA Control Systems Integrator Association where he was elected to the Board of Directors in 2011.

Richard has travelled extensively visiting 48 of the United States and all Canadian Provinces, enjoys mountain biking and snow skiing, and resides in Bethel Park PA with his family.

George Barr

George R. Barr
Vice President, Strategy & Administration

A native of Pittsburgh, George studied at Grove City College and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He has been with DSA since 2018.  In his most recent role as Quality Manager, George was instrumental in creating, adopting and enforcing industry best practices applied across our enterprise, and in leading DSA’s recertification processes through the Control Systems Integrator Association (CSIA) and the Association for Advancing Automation (A3).

As Vice President, Strategy & Administration, George is responsible for building teams, establishing commercial partnerships, administering our certified processes, and engaging with clients embarking on digital transformation initiatives with the resources and expertise DSA has to provide.

Timothy Nolan

Timothy D. C. Nolan, PMP
Vice President, Engineering & Innovation

Tim studied engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, receiving his Bachelors and Master’s degrees in Bioengineering, as part of the first class of Bioengineers to graduate from the new program at Pitt. His scholastic achievements include being a Pitt Honors College Scholar, being part of the Fessenden Honors in Engineering program, and presenting at the ASAIO conference in New York City. He was also a founding member of the Biomedical Engineering Society, a Squad leader in the Pitt Marching Band, and President of the Pitt Martial Arts society. He had a strong background in Artificial Organs research before moving to Data Science Automation, working on both the Jarvik Artificial Heart and several internal and external artificial lung devices, including the Pittsburgh based ALung technologies.

As an NI Certified TestStand and LabVIEW Architect, NI Certified Professional Instructor, NI Certified LabVIEW Embedded Systems Developer, and Project Management Professional, he has a great deal of technical experience in varied fields. He was recognized as a Control Systems Integrator Association Rising Star at the 2017 conference.

As Vice President, Engineering & Innovation, Tim is instrumental in enforcing new & established engineering discipline throughout the organization, delivering technical excellence to automation project outcomes, and providing mentorship to our diverse engineering teams. Tim also leads all DSA and client initiatives in new technology adoption, digital transformation & standardization, and new product & courseware development.

Jeff Scott

Jeffery J. Scott, PMP
Vice President, Projects & Customer Advocacy

Jeff earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Computer Science. After graduating he went to work for PPG Industries as IT Manager at their La Porte, TX Fine Chemical Plant. After returning to Pittsburgh, he held various IT positions within the Chemicals and Coatings businesses and was responsible for developing database and web applications.

Jeff was instrumental in implementing a business unit wide ERP for the Aircraft Windshield Division in Huntsville, AL. During his time at PPG he met and worked with Richard Brueggman in the Management Sciences Group. During his time in Management Sciences, he oversaw the update to their Capacity Planning and Master Scheduling application which are used by multiple businesses and facilities.

Ultimately Jeff decided to join Data Science Automation as a Project Manager. In this role he supervised the execution of projects, taught LabVIEW classes, and supported the company infrastructure. Jeff was most recently promoted to Director, Operation & Information Technology and is currently responsible for scheduling, resourcing, and developing the engineering talent within the organization. Jeff is an NI Certified LabVIEW Architect and NI Certified Professional Instructor. He also holds certifications as a Project Management Professional and Microsoft Certified Professional.

As Vice President, Projects & Customer Advocacy, Jeff is responsible for building and leading effective project teams, while ensuring automation project success by applying project management discipline and effective communication practices to meet customer goals.  Key to this role, is developing project leaders and processes that will continue to provide exceptional value, enhance the customer experience, manage evolving expectations, and ensure customer success.
